This is where Lilith first appears — not in Eden, but 2,000 years earlier in Sumer.

It's from a tablet found at Nippur, now in the Penn Museum — Tablet No.15283 — dated to around 2000 BCE. Translated by Samuel Kramer as *"Gilgamesh and the Huluppu-Tree"*. 7a46

Here is the legend as it was written:

*1. Inanna finds the tree*
In the beginning when the gods divided the heavens and earth, a violent storm uprooted a sacred Huluppu tree on the banks of the Euphrates. Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth, rescued it as it floated downstream and planted it in her holy garden at Uruk. She tended it for years, planning to make it into her throne and her sacred bed. 2874

*2. Three spirits invade it*
As the tree grew, three beings claimed it and Inanna could not drive them out:

- A serpent at the roots — chaos and untamed underworld power
- The Anzu bird in the branches — storm and rebellion
- Inside the trunk, *ki-sikil-lil-la-ke — the maiden Lilith* a0c5

Her Sumerian name literally means "the maiden who screeches constantly" but also "the gladdener of all hearts" — a wild, outspoken female voice that won't be silenced.

*3. Inanna weeps and asks for help*
Inanna is powerful enough to move the heavens, but not this. She asks her brother Utu, the sun god of justice, to cut it down. He refuses — felling the tree was seen as taboo. 3666

So she turns to Gilgamesh, the half-god hero of Uruk.

*4. Gilgamesh cuts it down*
Gilgamesh comes with a huge bronze axe. He slays the serpent. Seeing that, the Anzu bird flees with its young to the mountains. Lilith tears down her house and flees into the wilderness. 2874

Then Gilgamesh uproots the tree and gives the wood to Inanna. From the roots she makes her throne, from the crown her bed. From the leftovers she makes him his famous magical instruments, the pukku and mikku.

Hope your doing fine. I am super stressed out have been for a week now and things are not good, I will try to get here as I can.

I have family surrounded by fire in the Okanagan Valley and a few family might loose their homes and cars and maybe businesses. it is really bad, i really need prayers for family and friends in BC right now ....
